The Jaguars Netball Club (JNC) place a high emphasis on the physical preparation for all players whether on playing lists or players who are training partners. The program was implemented by our former S&C coach Xavier Menta, the program is based on current peer reviewed scientific literature resulting in the most informed and relevant training practices for netball.

Player Testing

JNC conducts testing of all players, in multiple areas of physical abilities. Importantly, every player is provided with feedback on each test conducted. All tests are used in a way to set the correct conditioning practices for each individual player of the club. By completing the testing and using the data, we can provide a unique personnel fitness program to each of our players.

Physical Capacity Testing

The physical capacity tests are common performance measures that are used across various sport programs, testing programs such as the 20m sprint, 505 change-of-direction test, vertical jump, and the Yo-Yo Intermittent recovery test level one. Every player receives feedback on their result at the completion of the testing periods.

Training

Whilst every training session is planned, so is the conditioning program where every session is periodised, progressed and regressed in order to provide the best physiological adaptation possible. For a typical session will include a 10-minute warmup, then approximately 15-20 minutes of conditioning that includes some ball work. This is followed by 30-60 minutes of ball skills and structured court work with game simulation coming at the end of the session. This format is used for all junior teams with the timings and intensities being changed to suit the age groups.

Player Conditioning

The running program is a high intensity interval-based program with set periods of work and rest. Importantly, the distances that athletes are required to run are based on their Yo-Yo testing results. This means that every player regardless of fitness level will get a running program that is designed for them, once again the JNC does not use a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach to training. Everything is tailored to the individual and we believe this benefits our players much better.
